We, as integrative physicians, believe that your healing emanates from within you. From that foundation, we encourage you to engage and listen to your own intuitive healing wisdom while our staff provides insight into holistic healthcare options that are specific to your needs.

Integrative medicine focuses on healing the whole person as well as treating disease, and sees the physician-patient relationship as central to the healing process. We use the least invasive, least toxic and least costly methods to help facilitate health by integrating both allopathic and complementary therapies. These are recommended based on an understanding of the physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual aspects of the individual.

We provide all primary care services, including annual exams and pap smears, with the exception of nighttime on-call services and hospital care. Because of this, we suggest that you have a primary care physician who can be available for medical emergencies.

With so many different treatment options available, many of which are time-consuming and costly, it is hard to know which will best address your particular issues. We have spent more than a decade investigating research-based options in conventional and alternative medicine and can guide you in making effective and economical choices for your health care.

This 90 minute comprehensive health consultation combines the wisdom and experience of Rachel Carlton Abrams, MD, and Naturopathic Doctor Aimée Gould Shunney, working together to create an individualized plan for your optimal health.  Your visit will include a full medical evaluation with pertinent physical exam as well as a detailed exploration of nutritional, lifestyle and emotional contributors to overall wellness.  Both doctors will meet with you together, and then collaborate on a streamlined and research-based approach to relevant laboratory testing, dietary changes, herbal and nutritional supplementation, bio-identical hormone balancing, and medication when necessary.  This is the only opportunity in Santa Cruz County to have both a medical and naturopathic doctor working in tandem to bring you the best of integrative medical care.
